With the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy being this year, I decided to watch this movie in his honor. Not to mention the fact that I am obsessed with the lingering conspiracy around his assassination.

It tells the eyewitness account from the eyes of the employees of Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX and a local businessman, who would become famous for his vantage point of the assassination. Starring Zac Efron, Paul Giamatti, Marcia Gay HardenColin Hanks, and Billy Bob Thornton.

The movie was enjoyable despite the subject matter. The film focused on the assassination, but more importantly the three days afterwards. It was good for my generation to catch a glimpse on the screen of how politically divided the city of Dallas was in 1963.

In pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup is abducted and sold into slavery. Directed by Steve McQueen (Shame, Hunger), it stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael K. Williams, and Michael Fassbender

This is a great movie. Based on a true story, the movie follows Solomon from being free in upstate New York, sold into slavery and the years that he had to endure, until a chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (played by Brad Pitt).

The acting was up to par, with solid supporting performances by Alfre Woodard and Sarah Paulson. The film did a great job of making the audience feel not only the pain of the slavery era, but solace in knowing that it was coming to an end.

I will always recommend people see thought-provoking movies like this one.

I expected much from this movie, being directed by Ron Howard - and it delivered! The action sequences were superb. Chris Hemsworth’s acting was above average as James Hunt -a slight step up for his career from his typecasting image of Thor. Daniel Bruhl gave a spellbinding performance as Niki Lauda. His portrayal of the former World Champion left me captivated. Olivia Wilde also stars as James Hunt’s love interest.

The movie delivered because it drew the audience in and for a split second, you felt like you were back in 1976 with the Formula One rivals and races. I recommend everyone see this movie, even if you are not a fan of racing. The story behind the story is also as good as the plot.

Howard does a great job of transitioning from scene to scene, as well as keeping the audience’s attention on the fierce rivalry of the drivers.

This mildly suspenseful film starring Jason Bateman, Hope Davis, Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton and Max Theirot shows us the dangers of technologies we use every day. Bateman and Davis are parents to two teenage high school students; a popular daughter, Abby, and a loner, outcast son, Ben. When Ben piques the interest of a fellow student, things take a turn for the worst. Meanwhile, Patton and Skarsgard’s characters have recently suffered through the death of a child; both using secret methods on the internet to cope with the grief, unknowingly making themselves vulnerable to online identity theft.

Snitch is a new crime drama about a father who goes to desperate measures to get his wrongly accused son released from jail. It stars Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, and Emmy Award winner Barry Pepper.

This movie was surprisingly good. I didn’t expect much from it…I was dead wrong! The plot is very rich as well as the characters. I liked the fact that it wasn’t a typical drug movie and that it had great suspense sequences. I also liked that the supporting actors held their own ground with great performances against some top players.

For the first time, Dwayne Johnson actually loses a part of himself in the role. He may be ready to take his acting career to the next level after this action thriller.

In this dark, action-horror fantasy movie based on the classic tale,Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters delivers! Starring Jeremy Renner as Hansel and Gemma Arterton as Gretel, the vigilantes kill witches for a living and embark on a journey to find out how their parents died in a small backwoods town.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It is action-packed from the beginning scene until the end. Packed with great performances by both Renner and Arterton, as well as Famke Janssen, you will not want to miss it! If you are looking for a fantasy action film with comedy and suspense, then go see this movie.

Kathryn Bigelow and her screenwriter Mark Boal (from Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker) team up again to film a movie based on the manhunt for Osama bin Laden. I enjoyed the movie, though it was a bit too long for my taste. Kathryn directs with such passion and intensity, that you can’t help but to feel like you are there with the rich characters she develops.

The movie actually followed the true story quite well. It was intriguing, suspenseful, and definitely action-packed. Best Actress nominee Jessica Chastain delivers yet another powerful acting performance, along with her co-stars Jason Clarke and Emmy-award winning actor Kyle Chandler (of Friday Night Lights fame).

If you enjoy Bigelow’s movies, then add this to your must-see list because she delivers yet again. It definitely deserved its Best Picture nomination at this year’s Academy Awards.

Honestly I’m glad this is on Political Pop because I hate stupid stories like this. However, I do digress. His playlist consists of songs like “Clique” by Kanye West and “Pumped Up Kids” by Foster The People. I don’t know how I feel about a senator’s music downloads is supposed to effect my life but hey it’s a story so I’m posting it!

There has been yet another school shooting. This time at a middle school in Southeast Atlanta, GA. Price Middle School was the chaotic scene of another senseless attack on innocent children. Allegedly, the person in custody is a student at the school. No details have been given about the student at this time. According to sources, there were two persons wounded, a 14 year old female student and a teacher. The student has been reported as being “alert, conscious and breathing” as she was being transported to Grady Hospital. All uninjured students are reportedly being transported via bus to a nearby church, where parents have been asked to pick their children up.
